Navigation System and Bluetooth
The naviflash 1040 / 1040i navigation system isn’t only a reliable route finder, but also a Bluetooth hands-free car kit. With this device, you can comfortably make telephone calls in your vehicle. You can find out everything about what naviflash 1040 / 1040i can do on the product page which is dedicated to this device. But what is Bluetooth though?
Bluetooth is a technology which provides the wireless connection of compatible devices with each other. This technology offers a comprehensive solution for the rapid and simple communication between PCs, peripherals and portable devices. The short-distance radio data transmission is accepted all over the world and can also be found in mobile telephones and hands-free car kits.
Cables annoy. Nobody likes the all too familiar and notorious tangle of cables. Bluetooth radio technology solves this problem, facilitating wireless communications between devices at a range of up to 10 meters. Devices connected with each other via Bluetooth don’t have to be pointed towards one another, like with an infra red connection. They don’t even have to be in the same room. If the applicable devices have been interlinked once, Bluetooth connections are normally established automatically with Bluetooth connections then occurring at no cost.
What’s transmitted via Bluetooth?
Voice, data and audio connections. Not only data packages can be exchanged between two Bluetooth devices. Bluetooth radio technology also supports voice and audio connections (they are radio links after all).
How quickly is data transmitted via Bluetooth?
Today, transmission rates of 723 KBit/s. to 2.1 MBit/s are possible. And even if this speed is sufficient for most data transmissions, this isn’t the absolute limit. Solutions are currently being worked on which will lead to a doubling or even a tripling of the transmission speed.
Do different Bluetooth connections mutually obstruct each other?
No. Bluetooth devices communicate with each other on a frequency band of 2.40 to 2.48 GHz. There’s 79 frequency channels in this frequency range and every Bluetooth device can randomly alternate between these 79 channels approx. 1,600 times per second. If two or more devices are connected with each other then they simultaneously alternate the transmission frequency being used. If two different radio dialogues happen to use the same radio channel, the downtime is so short that no connection problems occur.
How safe is Bluetooth though?
Assuming the user complies with basic safety measures, Bluetooth is a safe technology. In order to minimise the risk of external access to your own data, if you aren’t actually using Bluetooth, to ensure that it remains invisible to other devices, selecting the ‘hidden’ setting is recommended for your mobile phone. In addition to this, under no circumstances should your own device be interlinked with an unknown device. You get the best protection if the Bluetooth function is only actually activated if a Bluetooth connection is really going to be used.
