LCD

A liquid crystal display (LCD) is either a screen or display in which special liquid crystals which are able to influence the polarisation direction of light are used for the presentation of figures, symbols and graphics.

These screens and displays consist of pixels, character segments or symbols in which the orientation of the liquid crystals can be controlled using an electrical field.

Displays on measuring instruments, electronic devices, mobile telephones, digital watches and pocket calculators all operate with this technology.

The TFT screens which have been developed from this basis contain a matrix of thin film transistors. They currently represent the dominant flat screen technology.
